At the Early Childhood School we believe...
Early childhood is a time of exploration, connection, wonder and joy. It is our goal to nurture, support and challenge children as they develop their understanding of the world around them and build the foundational skills that will carry them through life. We view children as capable, creative, curious and active members of our community, and our classroom environment and teaching approach reflect this image of the child.
Our role as educators is to welcome children with a loving and engaging environment that provides opportunities to expand thinking, develop connections and deepen understanding through play. With developmentally appropriate practice in mind, we are empowering children to inquire, discover and confidently take on new challenges. We understand that early childhood education begins with connection- with developing trusting relationships that allow children to feel safe exploring the world around them. Through play, children process the information they gather each day, theorize and explore different ideas, and build foundational social emotional skills that will enable them to successfully engage with society. As we prepare our children for the 21st century, we are focusing on skills like creativity, collaboration, communication and critical thinking.
As a Jewish program we take a values-based approach to education- highlighting the importance of teaching kindness, wonder, care for our environment and community as well as early literacy, math and science skills. It is our responsibility to help children develop into questioners, thinkers and problem solvers, all with an attitude of joy and wonder.
Program Options
Toddlers: for children 18- 24 months old
Our youngest children are often taking their first steps into school. As they begin to explore and discover the world through their senses and the loving interactions they have with their teachers, we provide a nurturing and engaging Jewish environment to help them grow. In this safe and caring space, curiosity flourishes and friendships begin.
Twos: for children 2 years old on Sep. 1
In this age group, we focus on supporting the children's growing independence and self-confidence as we encourage their curiosity and developing social skills. Through play, the children learn to communicate their needs and feelings and begin to build the friendships that will carry them through preschool and into the Jewish community.
Threes: for children 3 years old on Sep. 1
With increasing confidence and skill, these young children are learning to navigate play with their peers and share their ideas and inquiries. As their language and mark-making skills grow more refined, their teachers will encourage them to plan, reflect and think about their questions and theories, while creating an environment that supports their developing peer relationships. Within this community, we invite Jewish explorations and encourage a love of learning.
Pre-K: for children 4 or 5 years old on Sep. 1
In their last year of preschool, we aspire to instill a deep love of learning and encourage the social emotional skills that your children will need to successfully transition into kindergarten. As they learn to collaborate, problem-solve and self-regulate, we provide engaging and developmentally appropriate opportunities to explore early literacy, math and science skills, all while connecting to foundational Jewish values, traditions and ideas.
