B'nai Mitzvah

B'nai Shalom of Olney has been celebrating this exciting rite of passage with families for almost 50 years. We look forward to guiding you through this ceremony, marking the transition between childhood and adolescence.

Bar/Bat Mitzvah is a significant milestone, as children formally accept the values of our heritage and the responsibilities of our tradition.  We create an environment that enhances the spiritual and religious experience for our students while addressing their individual needs and abilities. We seek parent involvement in the process so that the B’nai Mitzvah experience generates a close relationship between parents, child and professionals. As individuality is a primary focus at BSO, our B’nai Mitzvah program allows for families and professionals to work closely in creating expectations that match a student’s learning style and capabilities. Each family’s experience will be one that fosters confidence and allows the student to shine.

Our BSO community is eager to support you and to strengthen your connection to the synagogue as a spiritual home.

Steps to Planning a Bar/Bat Mitzvah

The planning process begins by selecting a date for your B’nai Mitzvah. Dates are assigned by calendar year two years in advance.  At that time, fifth-grade families will be invited to a meeting to discuss the process leading up to their child's b'nai mitzvah.  This meeting offers the chance to meet with other 5th grade parents who are also preparing for their child's b'nai mitzvah.

More information may be found in our B'nai Mitzvah Handbook.  Please contact the office for the most up to date handbook.
