  • All B’nai Mitzvah ceremonies are held at services during which the Torah is read.

  • B'nai Mitzvah ceremonies are routinely held on Saturday mornings, however, for an additional fee, families have the option of requesting a Saturday afternoon Havdalah service or ceremony on an alternate day.  This request should be directed to the Rabbi.

  • All fifth grade parents will be invited to a B'nai Mitzvah meeting where the Rabbi, Hazzan, Religious School Director, Executive Director and synagogue lay-leaders will provide them with information regarding the process leading up to their child's B'nai Mitzvah and offer them opportunities to ask questions and to meet the other 5th grade parents who are also preparing for their child's B'nai Mitzvah.

  • A Bar/Bat Mitzvah date will be assigned at least two years prior to a child’s 13th birthday. It is understood that, irrespective of the assigned Bar/Bat Mitzvah date, the child agrees to complete: 5 years of Religious/Day School education; complete 7th grade Religious School/Day School; and be registered in Religious/Day School at the time of his/her Bar/Bat Mitzvah.

  • B’nai Mitzvah services will, at a minimum, follow the standard format of B’nai Shalom of Olney services. Any special request for departures from the normal practice at BSO services should be made no later than 6 months before the Bar/Bat Mitzvah service and for clarification, must be made in writing to the Rabbi. The Rabbi will discuss the request with the family and child at a regularly scheduled meeting and shall provide a written response to the family’s requests within 6 weeks.

  • The informational material below and related fees are subject to change and will be updated accordingly.
