YASHER KOACH TO OUR YOUTH

• Rockville, MD – One hundred local teens just completed this year’s grant cycle with the Partnership for Jewish Life and Learning’s Jewish Youth Philanthropy (JYPI) Program.  The JYPI program provides the opportunity for teens to engage in the grant-making process and to become active community leaders, empowered citizens and responsible Jewish adults.   Included in the group of teens were three congregation members – Eric Sayag, Ashley Nahin and Jake Sorrells. They met with teens from across the Washington DC Metro area to learn about the principles of philanthropy, explore the needs of society and then make a group funding decision in response to grant proposals submitted by a variety of local, national and international nonprofits – both in and out of the organized Jewish community. “Teens who come to the JYPI program do so with such energy and excitement about the opportunity to give back to our community,” said Leah Siskin, Director of the JYPI Program at the Partnership, and BSO member. “They make careful and thoughtful decisions, and they truly understand the impact their decisions have on others.” Please contact Leah Siskin at lsiskin@pjll.org for information about the program.

HIGH HOLY DAY UPDATES

• High Holy Day 5771 packets have been mailed. There will be two lottery deadlines this year, the first will be held on June 30 and the second on August 9. Please note- The dates on the Schedule of Services are incorrect; however, the times are correct.  I have attached a corrected  page for you.  Our apologies for any inconvenience this may have caused. Service Schedule 
• Now that the books are in, we are pleased to offer the opportunity to individual families to dedicate one or more books for $54 per copy.  We hope many families will use this as an opportunity to have names inscribed in book plates in each mahzor to honor or memorialize family members and friends.  Discounts on larger numbers of dedications are available, as detailed on the dedication order form. 
• In the Adult Choir, there is a particular need for male singers, but women are encouraged to join, as well. Try us out!

Recycle, Reuse, Reduce

• Recycle your old cell phones, and empty inkjet & laser printer cartridges. Look for specially marked boxes in the Religious School and main lobby. The items will be packed up and sent to a recycling facility and the synagogue will be reimbursed according to the items collected. Recycle, Reuse, Reduce. Help the environment, help reduce millions of pounds of landfill while raising money for BSO.
