MAHZOR LEV SHALEM

• Wednesday, June 9 @ 8:00 p.m. - To introduce our community to our new mahzor, Mahzor Lev Shalem, and start preparing ourselves for the High Holy Days, we are offering sessions on the evenings of Tuesday, June 1 and Wednesday, June 9.  During these sessions our clergy will help us explore the book's layout and get to know the High Holy Day service a little better.  Please join us for minyan at 7:30 p.m. followed by class beginning at 8:00 p.m. If you are planning to attend either of these sessions, please RSVP to Roni Septoff by 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 1.  We need a minimum of 10 participants in order to hold the class. There is no fee for members, and an $18.00 charge for non-members.
• Now that the books are in, we are pleased to offer the opportunity to individual families to dedicate one or more books for $54 per copy.  We hope many families will use this as an opportunity to have names inscribed in book plates in each mahzor to honor or memorialize family members and friends.  Discounts on larger numbers of dedications are available, as detailed on the dedication order form. 

WANTED PEOPLE WHO LOVE TO SING

• In the Adult Choir, there is a particular need for male singers, but women are encouraged to join, as well. Try us out!

• Kids Choir (6:45 pm)& Adult Choir (8:15 pm) will meet on Tuesday, June 8 and Tuesday, June 22.

SISTERHOOD

• Friday, June 4 @ 7:30 p.m. - Please join us for Sisterhood Installation Shabbat on Friday, June 4 at 7:30 p.m. In the Main Sanctuary at BSO.  At this Kabbalat Shabbat service, we will show our support for and recognize the dedication of both the outgoing and incoming officers.  It would be wonderful to have a large turnout so we can truly celebrate all that Sisterhood has done in the past and will continue to do in the future ... both for ourselves as individuals and for BSO as a group.  BSO Sisterhood has always been a nurturing, welcoming entity for her members;  let’s return the favor to those who have made that happen!

KIDDUSH KONVERSATION

• Saturday, June 12 @12:15 p.m. - Is someone in your life showing signs of unusual irritability, isolating him/herself from friends and family, a sudden drop in grades, have a lack of concentration and and motivation? Does he/she have excessive guilt, changes in sleep and eating patterns or an increase in alcohol use?  Social, financial, and family changes can be challenging hurdles to overcome. Many children, teenagers and adults feel alone when struggling with these issues. As a result they feel hopeless and helpless and then develop these , among many more, symptoms of depression. Please Join the BSO Inclusion Committee for Kiddush Konversation on June 12, 2010. BSO Member Heidi Cohen, LCSW-C from JSSA will be there to discuss the difficulties of depression, and try and answer any questions you may have regarding yourself or someone you may know. Children, teens and adults are all welcome.
• Saturday, June 19 @ 12:15 p.m. - The topic, “Health care in Israel - are there lessons for use in the United States” will be led by BSO congregant Dr. Jerrold Michael, Professor of Public Health.

NURSERY SCHOOL                                              

• Saturday, June 12 @ 10:30 a.m. – Join the Nursery School and Congregation as we honor Trudy Doss, for her long years of love and devotion to our nursery school. This is in lieu of the regularly scheduled June 5 Tot Shabbat.
• ShabbatTogether:  The Nursery School invites the community to enjoy a Taste of Shabbat together every Friday in the Nursery School at 10:00 a.m.  Celebrate Shabbat with song, dance & community.  Open to all children through age 5 with a caregiver.  FREE and open to the public.  Photo ID required for admission.  For more information and to RSVP, please call (301) 570-0699.

• Our 2010-2011 registration letter has been emailed to you and all the forms are now on the BSO website under Religious School. You can go there directly by clicking on the link below. Please print out the forms and return them to the Synagogue Bookkeeping office no later than June 15 to avoid the late registration fee. [registration forms]

Recycle, Reuse, Reduce

• Recycle your old cell phones, and empty inkjet & laser printer cartridges. Look for specially marked boxes in the Religious School and main lobby. The items will be packed up and sent to a recycling facility and the synagogue will be reimbursed according to the items collected. Recycle, Reuse, Reduce. Help the environment, help reduce millions of pounds of landfill while raising money for BSO.
