INCLUSION COMMITTEE

• Sunday, January 24 @ 10:30 a.m., Join the inclusion committee for coffee and bagels with Ruth Berger, JSSA. Group will be facilitated by social worker, Ruth Berger of the Jewish Social Services Agency. JSSA will provide an overview of resources available in the Jewish community. This program will focus on families with special challenges and disabilities that need support to be part of the BSO community.
• Weekend of 2/19-2/20: Disability Awareness Shabbat. Join us for Friday night, Sat Services and Kiddush Conversation with Dr Dan Gottlie. Dr. Dan Gottlieb, a Philadelphia-area psychologist and father of congregant Debra Ewing, as speaker. He became paralyzed after a near fatal car accident as a young man. He has used his disability to be an inspiration to other people with disabilities. Among his many accomplishments, he hosts an award-winning show on mental health “Voices in the Family” and has written 4 books, most recently “Learning from the Heart: Lessons on Living, Loving and Listening". JEWISH FILM FESTIVAL

• Sunday, January 31 @ 7:00 - Jellyfish (Hebrew: מדוזות - Meduzot) is a 2007 Israeli film based on a story by Shira Geffen and directed by her and her husband, Etgar Keret. The film tells the story of three women in Tel Aviv whose intersecting lives paint a portrait of Israeli life. Batya, a waitress at weddings, comes across a mute child who seemingly emerges out of the sea. Keren, a bride whose wedding Batya worked at, breaks her leg climbing out of bathroom stall and ruins her dream honeymoon in the process. And Joy, a Filipino domestic, attends with her employer with whom she struggles to communicate. Poetic imagery draws connections between the lives of these women, all of whom find solace in the sea. HAZAK

• Wednesday, February 17 @ 1;15 p.m. - Hazak members will really get into the twenty first century at this month's meeting -- Debbie Kovalsky will give a talk entitled, "Mind the Technology Generation Gap". She will discuss the evolution of technology in terms of communication and social interaction from the last century to today. While gadgets have gotten smaller, smarter and cheaper - they are only a means to the basic human need to develop relationships with others, expand our understanding of the world we live in and enhance our lives. Please join us for this timely talk. Hazak will be doing something fun the third Wednesday of every month!!

SISTERHOOD

• Saturday, January 23 @ 9:00 a.m. -  On this Shabbat morning, women from B’nai Shalom of Olney sisterhood will lead and participate in Shabbat morning services.  If you would like to participate in the service, please contact Paula Evans at 301-384-3943 or send an email to Paula.Evans@noaa.gov.  Even you are not a member of sisterhood, please come and join us on this special Shabbat morning.  Also, on Shabbat morning, Catharine Clark, a 3rd year rabbinical student at the Jewish Theological Seminary will be spending Shabbat with us and will give the sermon on Shabbat morning.  After lunch, Catherine will lead us in a discussion on Rabbinic thought on how much to eat.
