NEW LAW STARTS TODAY

If you are reading this while you are driving... Please remember that as of today, October 1, 2009 Senate Bill 98/House Bill 72 prohibits a person from using a text messaging device to write or send a text message while operating a motor vehicle in motion or in the travel portion of a roadway. The law makes the activity a misdemeanor crime with the potential of a civil penalty to be imposed and a fine of not more than $500 if convicted.

• If you have ordered a Lulav and Etrog they have arrived. Please stop in and see Roni Septoff in the office to get yours.
• The 2009 - 2010 Program Guide and Directories have been given out to all that attend services. If you have not received yours, please stop in the synagogue office and see Roni to pick yours up. We are trying not to mail them to save on the cost!
• Rabbi Sunshine's High Holy Day Sermons - The sermons are located on the left side panel of our website, they are under the "Rabbi Ari Sunshine" subheading under the "Our Synagogue" heading.

SUKKAH HOP 5770

• Please join the BSO community as we hop from Sukkah to Sukkah on Sunday October 4. We will leave from shul after services and join members of our BSO family in their individual sukkah. [info]

REDSKINS UPDATE

• If you are interested in working at FedEx Field you will need to be fingerprinted. It looks like we will be going on October 12 in the evening as a group.

COMING OF AGE IN MARYLAND

• Tuesday, October 13 @ 1:00 p.m. - A unique social and educational program designed with Seniors 60 plus in mind.  This program is co-sponsored by the JCC of Greater Washington , JSSA, and the Jewish Federation.  Join us for lively music and a sampling of one of our new events.   Frieda Enoch , from the JCC and the Capital Klezmers, will entertain and lead a sing-a-long of  familiar Jewish tunes.  Our version of “Who Wants to be a Millionaire” will follow. Light refreshments will be provided.

Join B’nai Shalom of Olney Sisterhood & members of the Muslim Community Center, Colesville Presbyterian Church & Transfiguration Episcopal Church for a meaningful and insightful evening.  A member of each faith from our local community will briefly speak of their personal religious experiences and impressions of the book. NURSERY SCHOOL

• October Events – We look forward to having you join us for our first Tot Shabbat on October 3, 2009.  Tot Shabbat is led by Jen Sunshine and takes place in the Chapel from 11:00 a.m. – 11:45 a.m.  Pizza in the Hut is an easy dinner night for you!  Dinner is from 5:30 p.m. – 7:00 p.m., on Thursday October, 8th.   Put the evening on your calendar!  Our Simchat Torah synagogue celebration, Sunday, October 11th, is a “must!”  This is a morning filled with joyful singing and dancing -- a Torah Party for all ages!

• Ongoing - Every other Thursday between 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. - Leslie Kessler, a licensed professional social worker who works at JSSA's Department of Aging, will be on site at B'nai Shalom every other Thursday. You are welcome to drop in or call the synagogue office to make an appointment. Please bring issues that you want to discuss, or just come in and say hi so she can get to know you. She will be here again on October 15, 2009.

Where are our college students?
Be sure your college student is on B'nai Shalom of Olney's Koach list.  BSO maintains a connection to our college students by sending them holiday greetings and packages as well as the monthly newsletters and weekly announcements.   If you wish to have your student included, send their name, college, mailing address and e-mail address to Mara Bayewitz.   Please put BSO Koach in the subject line.  We need to hear from you to update their information, even if their address is the same as last year's.
