5770 BSO Shofar Squad

• Sunday, September 13 @ 9:30 a.m. Second Rehearsal- Even if you missed the first one, it is not to late to join the squad! Be a part of the 5770 BSO Shofar Squad! Come join Rabbi Sunshine and new BSO member and expert ba’al tekia Colin Alter for a shofar sounding workshop and rehearsal. Veterans and rookies, adults and children are welcome as we learn how to sound the shofar or brush up on our technique. We will also coordinate the group logistics for shofar sounding on Rosh Hashanah (since we do not sound the shofar on Shabbat, we are sounding only on the 2nd day this year—Sunday, 9/20) so that our shofar blasts can have the most profound impact on the congregation.

Jewish Residents of Leisure World's Singles Group

• Thursday, September 24th @ 4:00 p.m. -Hazzan Sara Geller has been invited to speak at their meeting. Her topic will be "A Woman Cantor Approaches Yom Kippur". The program will take place at one of the clubhouses in Leisure World. Leisure World residents should RSVP to the Singles Group. If you do not live in Leisure World, you should RSVP to Hazzan Geller so she can give you the exact location and get you in through security that day.

NUrsery School

• Many of you have asked where we get the challahs for Shabbat Dinners, many of you have asked where we get the challahs we have in the office on Thursday --- well now you can get your own.....Attached is the new Challah order form for the spring 2009. Please turn in by the end of February if you would like to start delivery at the beginning of March. Once placed challahs will be available for pick up on Thursday afternoons in the synagogue office. • Ongoing - Every other Thursday between 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. - Leslie Kessler, a licensed professional social worker who works at JSSA's Department of Aging, will be on site at B'nai Shalom every other Thursday starting on May 7th. You are welcome to drop in or call the synagogue office to make an appointment. Please bring issues that you want to discuss, or just come in and say hi so she can get to know you.

GENETIC RISKS & GIFTS

• Sunday, September 13 @ 10:30 a.m. or 7:00 p.m. - You're invited to a discussion about our GENETIC RISKS & GIFTS and the implications of genetic research on our daily lives By Dr. Amir Orian, Cancer and Vascular Biology Center,Technion – Israel  Institute of Technology. This event is presented by The American Society for Technion-Israel Institute of Technology. There will be no cost to attend, but rsvps are requested. There will be no solicitation for funds. 10:30 session will be held at Washington Hebrew Congregation and the 7:00 p.m. session will be held at Kehilat Shalom. Be sure your college student is on B'nai Shalom of Olney's Koach list.  BSO maintains a connection to our college students by sending them holiday greetings and packages as well as the monthly newsletters and weekly announcements.   If you wish to have your student included, send their name, college, mailing address and e-mail address to Mara Bayewitz.   Please put BSO Koach in the subject line.  We need to hear from you to update their information, even if their address is the same as last year's.
