B’nai Shalom of Olney Teens Participate in a Model Philanthropy Program

Teaching Teens Jewish Values As part of the Jewish Youth Philanthropy Institute (JYPI), a program of the Partnership for Jewish Life and Learning, 121 local teens from 8th -12th grade recently made more than $100,000 in grants to twenty-seven nonprofits. Included in the group of teens were 2 Congregation members, Michael Eskow and Matthew Kovalsky. Through JYPI’s youth philanthropy programs, these teens were able to explore the principles of philanthropy and the needs of society. They met throughout the year with teens from across the metropolitan area to learn about philanthropy and make funding decisions based on grant proposals submitted by a variety of local, national and international nonprofits.
