HIGH HOLIDAY TICKET SALES

The first High Holiday Ticket Sales lottery deadline has passed and the first round of assignments have been made. If you haven't already gotten your forms in, please order tickets as soon as possible. There are still seats available for the main service, but they are going fast. There are also seats available for the Contemporary Creative Learning Service and the Family Service. Don't forget to register your children for Junior Congregation and Babysitting.

SWING DANCING WITH LESSONS

Swing Dance for everyone August 26th. $10 admission.

 SCHOLAR-IN-RESIDENCE WEEKEND

Save the date—Friday, September 7—Sunday, September 9—BSO presents the Marian and Harry Hinkes Scholar-in-Residence Weekend, featuring Dr. Steven Brown of the Jewish Theological Seminary.  Dr. Brown is the Dean of the William Davidson Graduate School of Jewish Education and the Director of the Melton Research Center for Jewish Education, and is a master teacher and a wonderful presenter whom you won’t want to miss!

• Thursday August 30, 8:00 pm, everyone in the congregation is invited to the Berlin Sanctuary:  Chuck Kahanov and Washington Talent will record us singing the Prayer for the State of Israel “Avinu Shebashamayim”, which we will submit to the Cantors Assembly and United Synagogue’s upcoming CD, the Spirit of Israel. (Join us for minyan too at 7:30pm!)

CANTORIAL CONCERT

Save the date—November 18th—Hazzan Geller will be our featured artist in “Kol Zimrah” – a concert of Jewish and American music.  Please contact Jay Goldman chairman of the concert if you would like to help organize or work on the committee for this concert. The committees first meeting will be on Thursday, September 6 at 8:00 pm.

WORK THE REDSKINS CONCESSIONS AND EARN MONEY FOR B'NAI SHALOM

B'nai Shalom has committed to running the Kosher Concession Stands at all the Redskins Home Games. We are looking for volunteers to be team captains and others to volunteer as well. This is a full day commitment but in the end it is so worth it. For each team we need a minimum of 8-10 people per game (the 8-10 people consists of 1 stand manager, 1 assistant manager and 6 cashiers). Since we will be selling beer, kids under 18 cannot count in the total of people. Please respond to Beth Carchman (bcarchman@comcast.net) to set up a time for the game day managers to have a meeting and training. Anyone on your "team" can be the manager. Gather your closest friends or members of your Havurah to make a team.

SEE FIDDLER ON THE ROOF WITH BSO

B'nai Shalom of Olney is selling tickets to see Fiddler on the Roof at the Olney Theatre Center on either Sunday, 12/2 at 7:30pm or Sunday, 12/16 for the matinee. Join your friends and family at BSO to see this wonderful production. [More Info]

SISTERHOOD SELLING KUGELS and more!

• The Sisterhood is once again selling parve kugels for the holidays.  These are the same wonderful kugels that we all enjoy at the Shabbat morning luncheons.  Deadline for ordering is August 31st.  There are order forms on the table outside the sanctuary doors. • Sisterhood is having their  Welcome Back "Change of Seasons Schmooze" Brunch in the Isadore and Rebecca Kramer Social Hall. Sept. 16th Sisterhood book club will be discussing Those Who Saved Us by Jenna Blum at 11:00. The place to be announced.
• Paid Up Membership Event will be on October 14th at 2:00 @ BSO information for this will be sent out mid September. 

Seaboard Region's Inaugural Azor Hof Ha-Yam Awards Reception and Celebration

We are happy to be participating in the Seaboard Region’s [USCJ] new initiative to acknowledge and honor young synagogue leaders that have exhibited an outstanding commitment to their congregation, this region, and the Conservative Movement. The program is called Azor Hof Ha-Yam. The awards, reception, and celebration will be held on Sunday, October 14th at 5:30 PM at Ohr Kodesh Congregation in Chevy Chase Maryland. Our honorees are Tami Abramowitz and Debbie Kovalsky. Contact the office for invitations.

Where are our college students?
Be sure your college student is on B'nai Shalom of Olney's Koach list.  BSO maintains a connection to our college students by sending them holiday greetings and packages as well as the monthly newsletters and weekly announcements.   If you wish to have your student included, send their name, college, mailing address and e-mail address to Ruth Burka at raburka@gmail.com.  Please put BSO Koach in the subject line.  We need to hear from you to update their information, even if their address is the same as last year's.

MENS CLUB

• BSO Purple Softball will be competing in the Fall Synagogue Men's Club Softball League for the first time. 
  About half of the defending spring/summer league champions will be playing which leaves room for about 5 players for the fall team.  This league is less competitive than the spring league.  It is slow pitch, 6-12 arc softball and plays doubleheaders on Sunday mornings for about 6 weeks.  If interested please contact Ira Deming by email at IMDDPM@AOL.com 
• The Men’s Club will once again be selling Entertainment books.  If you are interested please stop in or call the synagogue office.
