BE A MINYANAIRE!
Summertime and the livin’ is easy… But the minyans are harder. The challenge of having a daily minyan is more difficult during the summer months. We are looking for people who will commit to regularly attending a minyan service at least once a week so that those saying Kaddish can do so. Please pick any of the daily minyans offered (Monday –Thursday 7:30 PM, Friday morning 6:45 AM, Sunday morning 9 A.M) and email larryfishbein@comcast.net with your choice. Please make this commitment to help those in our congregation as they remember and honor their beloved.
ADULT EDUCATION OFFERINGS
KIDDUSH KONVERSATION
There will be a Kiddush Konversation and Lunch on Saturday, June 2 led by our member, Elaine Senter discussing Volunteer Opportunities in Israel. This will be the last Kiddush Konversation before the High Holy Days.
We want to thank Gene Newman who has organized the Kiddush Konversation for the past several years. We will be looking for a new coordiator for this wonderful Shabbat Program. Please contact Todd Gardner if you might be interested in organizing the program or being a speaker at one of the lunches.
END OF THE YEAR PICNIC
Correction to page 5 in the newsletter: The item mentioning the Bark Mitzvah on June 3 from 1-3 p.m. has been moved to the fall (date to be determined). We didn’t think it would be befitting of a picnic to have dogs eating hamburgers off of our blankets. The June 3rd date is still accurate, but it will be a Congregational Picnic, where the only dogs will be in buns with ketchup and mustard. [More Info]
HAZAK (MEMBERS 55+ YOUNG)
Join us for Bowling! BSO Hazak, Men's Club and Sisterhood invite you to a social, fun filled afternoon Monday, June 4 at 2:00pm. AMF Shady Grove Lanes. $3.00 PER GAME & $4.68 FOR SHOE RENTAL RSVP TO Rena Shochet, 301-598-0477 OR GMA10BEAR@VERIZON.NET [More Info]
MEN'S CLUB
The BSO Men’s Club and the Israel Affairs Committee will host a talk by Dr. Rami Scharf, who will be speaking on “What's new in the Israeli Life Sciences Industry.” Israel is a world leader in this critical area, offering hope for people who suffer from injury and illnesses worldwide.
Dr. Scharf is currently the Senior Director at the THE WEINBERG GROUP and has served as the Program Manager for the Cancer Therapy Evaluation Program (CTEP) at the National Cancer Institute.
Dr. Scharf’s talk is presented by the American Technion Society. Technion-Israel Institute of Technology is Israel's premiere science and Technology University and one of the major research centers in the world.
The program is scheduled for Sunday June 24th following minyan. Brunch will be provided by the Men’s Club. Dr. Scharf will begin at 10am. All are welcome and the program is free.
HOST FAMILIES NEEDED
On July 5, USY on Wheels will be making a stop in Olney for the night and they need a place to stay! If you’ve never been a USY on Wheels host before, it’s a lot of fun! The teens on the bus are split into different homes to stay for the night, and all you do is provide them with a bed, couch or cot and a light meal. That’s it! Even if you don’t have teens, you could still enjoy having one in your home. A lot of families with small children love hosting teens from Wheels because their little ones love spending time with the older kids, and vice versa! If you are interested in finding out more, or are just ready to say yes, please email Mara Bayewitzh at mara.bayewitz@bnaishalomofolney.org. Thank you for welcoming other Jewish teens across the country!

FROM THE CONFIRMATION CLASS
We’re going GREEN at BSO! The confirmation class of 2007, as their gift to the congregation will be creating a restful, meditative garden in the outdoor space outside the chapel. We have a limited amount of money to spend ($200), so we are depending on all of us at BSO to donate or recycle any perennials you were planning to separate, paving stones from completed projects, unused bags of mulch, weed blocking plastic, etc. We will use our resources to purchase a bench and any additional supplies. Please contact Karen Weingart before June 7 queen.mommydala@juno.com if you have plants or materials to donate. We will arrange for pickup. Please do not bring items to the synagogue. We plan to work on the garden on Sunday, June 17 after minyan. Thanks from the confirmation class of 2007.
MAH JONG MORNINGS
Every Thursday morning at 9:30am, join us to play Mah Jong. All level players are welcome, we will even teach beginners how to play. We will NOT meet this Thursday, 6/7 due to Nursery School Celebration Day.
