GUEST SPEAKER, Scott Miller FOR SHABBAT, APRIL 14TH

Scott Miller is the Director of Curatorial Affairs at the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum. Prior to the opening of the Holocaust Museum to the public in 1993, Scott was a research historian for the museum’s Wexner Learning Center – a multimedia information center on the Holocaust. In 1993, Scott became the Academic and University Programs Coordinator for the Museum’s Research Institute. Scott has also taught Jewish History for the Jewish Studies Program at American University, in Washington, DC. He has a Masters degree in Jewish History from the Jewish Theological Seminary, and has studied at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. Scott co-edited with Randolph Braham The Nazis’ Last Victims: The Holocaust in Hungary (Wayne State University Press: 1998), and has co-authored with Sarah Ogilvie Refuge Denied – The St. Louis Passengers and the Holocaust. (University of Wisconsin Press: 2006).

A Partnership for Jewish Life and Learning program
Beginning training for congregants who would consider working in youth education in a synagogue setting. Participants in the program are asked to make a commitment to work on some level in youth and adult education in our community during the 2007-08 school year. Participation can include teaching, substituting, working as an aide or being a volunteer in the school, etc. Classes will be held on Monday evenings, from 7:00 pm -9:00 pm April 16, 23, 30 May 7, 14, 21 June 4 at the Partnership for Jewish Life and Learning 12230 Wilkins Avenue. We have a lot going on in USY, starting with the Cosmic Bowling trip this Saturday night at 8 p.m. We are meeting at BSO and carpooling over to Shady Grove Lanes (note the location change from the original flyer) for an evening of night bowling, great music and fun with friends! (see attached flyer; walk-ins need to meet us at Shady Grove Lanes at 9 p.m.)
    
  • April 15 USY Scavenger Hunt and Dave and Buster's
    USY is going on a Dave and Buster’s Mall Scavenger Hunt! We will all meet here at 2 p.m. drive carpool to White Flint mall, where a full-scale scavenger hunt will be followed by almost 2 hours in Dave and Buster’s! (see attached flyer)
  • Today is the deadline for USY Spring Convention! April 20-22, our USYers will spend a weekend in a hotel with a pool, participate in fun activities, and meet kids from other chapters in the region! If you didn’t make it this year, don’t forget to go to Spring next year!
  • Seaboard Region has organized a once-in-a-lifetime trip to New Orleans, so USYers can work with Habitat for Humanity to help build homes for victims of Hurricane Katrina. Many of our USYers are already signed up, and there is limited space on the trip. If you are interested, check out the attachments and call Mara in the youth office as soon as possible.
