DEDICATION BOARD PROOFING

We are pleased to announce that the B’nai Shalom of Olney Building Dedication Board is in its final stage of production.
Please stop by the synagogue lobby to review the current proof board to ensure your name and donation level is correct.  You may also proof the board online. If there are corrections to be made, please contact Shelley Engel, Executive Director at the synagogue office 301-774-0879 or shelley.engel@bnaishalomofolney.org .

The artist has begun production but it is possible to make corrections.   It is then anticipated that the board will be hung before the High Holidays.

We are grateful to everyone involved in this project, especially the donors who made the building project possible.

A TASTE OF ME'AH

Baltimore Hebrew University is the Maryland home of Me’ah, an outstanding adult educational experience. Me’ah offers its students not only an opportunity to grow as a literate student of Jewish life, but this program also extends to you an extraordinary opportunity to join a growing community of learners and leaders. This is a true journey of discovery considering such questions as: Who am I? What is my history? How did the religion and culture develop and what does it mean to me?

BHU is offering an opportunity to perspective students to join them for “A Taste of Me’ah” on Tuesday, August 29, 2006, at 7:45 p.m. at: B’nai Shalom Of Olney. This is a perfect way to sample the program! One of their faculty will teach, and you will experience an actual class. Reservations are required. To reserve your space, please call Carol Brandwein at 410.578.6904. Spaces are limited and on a first come first serve basis. Now is the time to invest in your own education, and the Me’ah program is the perfect venue. We do hope you will be able to join us at B’nai Shalom of Olney and experience this exceptional program first hand. Classes will be offered this fall in several locations. You will learn of these at this meeting. If you have any questions, please feel free to call Elaine Eckstein at 410.587.6905.

FREE FILM FESTIVAL

B'nai Shalom of Olney's FREE Film Festival returns, Sunday, September 17 at 7:00pm.
Ushpizim
As the festive Jewish holiday of Succoth approaches, big-hearted Moshe Bellanga, (Shuli Rand) a devoutly religious man, and his wife, Malli (Mechal Bat Sheva Rand), find themselves childless, broke and unable to purchase the necessary religious objects to appropriately observe the holiday. When Moshe and Malli receive an anonymous gift of $1,000 from a local charity, they interpret it as a blessing and use it purchase the holy items and build the Succah (holiday dwelling) for their rituals. Meanwhile, just as the holiday begins, a dark secret from Moshe's past is revealed as two of his former associates escape from prison and come to Moshe's home - as they know it is considered a blessing to host guests during the holiday of Succoth and will not be turned away. The two outlaws begin to take advantage of Moshe's hospitality - drinking, smoking and playing loud music in his home, and they begin to question his new found faith and allude to his violent past. After fabricating a story to rid themselves of their unruly houseguests, Moshe and Malli eventually come to see the treatment of their less-than-holy Ushpizin as a test of love and faith. HAZAK - "USY FOR OUR MATURE MEMBERS"

HAZAK is planning a Hike at Catoctin National Park followed by a visit to Pryors Orchard and nearby gift shops on Monday, October 16. The day will end with an early dinner at the Cozy Restaurant. Although the group plans to walk on the road surface rather than on paths through the woods, anyone interested may take the trails. The group will meet at the ranger station at 10 a.m. Allow about 1 1/2 hours driving time from Olney to the ranger station.. In case of rain, the hike will be cancelled but dinner will still be scheduled for 3 p.m. * Please call Harvey/Judy Peritt before September 27 to RSVP, for directions to Catoctin, to arrange carpools, and for restaurant reservations. *
