High Holiday Ticket Orders Due - Tuesday, August 15th

Remember to submit your High Holiday Ticket Orders by August 15th to the synagogue office. Submission by the deadline will guarantee that you will be entered into the lottery for seating priority. Please note that you MUST have a ticket to attend B'nai Shalom of Olney High Holiday Services. Security Officers will be checking for tickets at ALL facilities to maintain the safety of our worship services. [Download High Holiday Ticket Information and Order Forms]

Yizkor Book (Book of Rememberance) Orders

If you wish to place a memorial in our Book of Remembrance this year, please complete this form and enclose it, along with your check or credit card number, in an envelope marked “Yizkor.”  You can place your order in the “Yizkor Book” mailbox at the shul or mail it to B’nai Shalom of Olney, 18401 Burtfield Drive, Olney, MD 20832.  Please submit your order no later than August 22, 2006.  IN ORDER FOR YOUR MEMORIAL TO APPEAR, IT MUST BE PREPAID.   For questions contact Robin Rosenthal at (301) 774-5236.

Rabbinical Transition Committee

• Rabbi Matthew Simon, Emeritus Rabbi of B'nai Israel (Rockville) will serve as the interim rabbi for B'nai Shalom of Olney until Rabbi Ari Sunshine assumes the permanent responsibility beginning November 15th. Please stop by and welcome Rabbi Simon to B'nai Shalom of Olney.

The current Rabbinical Transition Committee welcomes other BSO members to help implement the many ideas we have discussed. We are helping members organize Shabbat Dinners, Chavurot invitations, hospitality efforts and much more. Sign Interpretation

We are grateful to Sign Interpreter, Lisa Pershan who has reconfirmed that she will interpret at service on the third Friday night of each month, but only when requested in advance.  Actually, BSO will provide interpretation at any time with a week's advance request to cong.bsolney@bnaishalomofolney.org. or by calling 301-774-0879

Religious School

• Religious School registration for the 2006-2007 School Year was due July 14, 2006. If you did not receive a registration packet or need additional packets for new students, please call the Religious School Office at 301-774-9323 or print the paperwork from BSO's website.   Classes are now being formed. If you have not yet registered, please do so immediately.  Member families need to be in good financial standing with the synagogue in order register their children for school.
• Back to school packets were mailed. If you did not receive one, please call the religious school office or e-mail us at bso.rs@bnaishalomofolney.org
• We encourage all students to attend services during the summer in the main sanctuary to keep their Hebrew skills sharp.
• The first Tuesday and Wednesday  of Religious School will be September 5 and 6.   The first Sunday is September 10. 

Youth Department

National Allicance for the Mentally Ill, Montgomery County chapter (NAMI) to Meet at BSO

NAMI FAMILY TO FAMILY EDUCATION PROGRAM Family to Family is a free series of 12 weekly classes beginning September 14th, 7-9:30pm for family members, partners and friends of individuals with mental illness. It helps caregivers understand and support individuals with serious mental illness, while maintaining their own well-being. The course is taught by a team of trained NAMI family member volunteers who know what it is like to have a loved one struggling with a brain disorder.
