Community service opportunities for youth
ATTENTION INCOMING 10TH-12TH GRADERS and their parents! Community service opportunities with summer training offered. Applications due June 15, 2006.
The Partnership of Jewish Life and Learning is thrilled to announce the inaugural year of S.N.A.P. – the Special Needs Assistance Program. High school students entering 10th through 12th grades in the fall of 2006 are invited to apply to participate in a week-long summer training institute to become aides in congregational school classrooms and youth groups, helping children and teens with special needs experience success in these settings. The training institute will take place August 21 – 24, 2006 from 9 am – 2:30 pm. Training will continue throughout the year at monthly sessions that will enable teens to share their experiences, problem-solve, and gain additional strategies for their work. Community service credit will be available as well as possible stipends. For more information, or to receive an application, please contact Lenore Layman at 301-255-1952, llayman@pjll.org

FREE FILM FESTIVAL - Sunday, May 21 - 7:00pm
The B'nai Shalom of Olney Film Festival will be showing three episodes of the hilarious but controversial HBO Sitcom, Curb Your Enthusiasm, written by and starring Larry David of Seinfeld fame. The episodes will highlight Larry's ambiguity towards his Jewish Faith. His character is continually searching for his place as a member of the Jewish People. While connecting strongly to the Jewish People culturally, his religious observance is often skewed.
A discussion will follow the viewings.
