Youth Department
- During this time of the year where we remember what we are thankful for,
it’s also time to remember those who are in need. The annual B’nai
Shalom of Olney Food Drive is here again for the High Holidays.
Grocery bags will be available in the lobby. Please
take some home and fill them up and bring them back before Yom Kippur. The
food goes to the Capital Area Food Bank who very much appreciates B’nai
Shalom of Olney’s generosity.
- 11th graders, spend a day touring two college campuses
to begin figuring out what’s important to you.
To make it more fun, invite some Jewish friends from school or camp or
your youth group. By the end of the day, you’ll get a taste of two
very different types of schools to help you start figuring it all out.
It’s happening November 6th.
For more info, check online or look in your mailboxes real soon!
- The registration deadline for the Kadima Kallah is just
a few days away. Please get your applications in

Nursery School
The B'nai Shalom of Olney Nursery School will hold its Twelfth
Annual Fall Boutique and Silent Auction on Sunday,
October 16, 2005, from 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. This fabulous
boutique will feature over 60 vendors with unique merchandise such as jewelry,
toys, apparel, holiday gift ideas and home accessories. Also featured are
a silent auction, themed raffle baskets and free gift wrapping. The event
will take place at the Longwood Community Recreation Center located at
19300 Georgia Avenue in Brookeville, about about one mile north of Route
108. For more information call 301-260-1406. Admission is free and open
to all.
Mens Club
- On Sunday, November 6 the Men's Club will host a Sunday
Morning Brunch program on "Jewish War Veterans." Our guest speaker will be Richard
Rosenzweig who is the Senior Vice Commander of the DC Jewish War Veterans.
All Congregants are invited to attend.
- Entertainment books are available once again in the front office.
Sisterhood
- All Sisterhood members are urged to attend Sisterhood's monthly
meeting next Thursday, October 6 at 8 p.m. at the home of Naomi Yadin-Mendick. In
addition to other business, we will vote to approve the Sisterhood budget
for 5766 (the fiscal year from July 1, 2005 through June 30, 2006). It's
important that Sisterhood members participate in this process, and it's a
great opportunity to gain insight into and help guide the mission and priorities
of BSO Sisterhood.
Those who have not had a chance to submit their dues by the date of the
meeting are welcome to pay Sisterhood dues that evening so that they cam
participate
and vote. Remember, new BSO members' first year of Sisterhood membership
is complimentary and entitles you to all the benefits and rights (such as
voting on the budget) of membership.
- We're looking for a few more Sisterhood member volunteers to help staff
the Sisterhood Judaica shop. In order to meet the needs of the BSO community
we want to have regular hours to serve nursery school families, religious
school families, working adults, etc. If you can commit an hour or two (or
three) each month, please call Ellen Lemberger.
- Sisterhood Shabbat is Saturday, January
21. It's not too early to start thinking
about your participation in the service, learn some new skills, practice
your Hebrew reading so that you can lead a new prayer or section of the service.
If you think you might want to try something new but need some help or if
you are interested in helping coordinate Sisterhood Shabbat, please call
Naomi.

for upcoming events
MOVIE NIGHT
There was a huge crowd at Bonjour Monsieur Shlomi.
If you missed the film, it is available through NetFlix.
Next Month - October 23rd we will show The
Life and Times of Hank Greenberg, directed by Aviva Kempner
The story of Baseball Hall-of-Famer Hank Greenberg is told through archival
film footage and interviews with Jewish and non-Jewish fans, his former teammates,
his friends, and his family. As a great first baseman with the Detroit Tigers,
Greenberg endured antisemitism and became a hero and source of inspiration
throughout the Jewish community, not incidentally leading the Tigers to Major
League dominance in the 1930s.
