Weekly Highlights & Schedule of Services
[Events in green will occur before the next Shabbat.]

  • Friday Evening Shabbat Service Tot Shabbat - 6:45pm; Full Service 8:00pm
  • Saturday Morning Service - 9:00am
  • Junior Congregation - 9:30am, followed by Kids Konversation
  • Saturday Mincha - 12:30pm
  • Sunday, Minyan at 8:45am
  • Rescued Torah Rededication - 10:00-11:15am
  • Evening Minyan, Monday-Thursday 7:30 p.m. in the Shuman Family Chapel
  • Thanksgiving Morning Minyan - 9:00am

The High Holiday Ticket Committee is seeking your input on this year's High Holiday services and ticket process. Your feedback is crucial to help make improvements for next year. If you were satisfied, we need to know. If not, we need to know what it is you think we can do better. Please take a few moments to respond to the survey you received recently by email. If we don't have your email address, you didn't receive the survey. You can pick up a print version of the survey from Shelley Engel or send your email address to Lori Gardner at lorigardner@comcast.net

Religious School

Junior Congregation will be held on Saturday, November 20 from 9:30 am - 11:30 am in rooms 13, 14 and 15.

Religious School will be closed from Wednesday, November 24 thru Sunday, November 28.

Our Rescued Torah Dedication will take place on November 21 from 10:00 am -11:15 am in our sanctuary.

All students in grades K-3 will come to school at 8:30 but will not be dismissed until 11:15 as they will be going to the sanctuary with their teachers for the dedication. Grades 4-7 students will come to school at 10:00 and go directly to the sanctuary. They will go to class after the dedication and be dismissed at 1:00. All parents are invited to attend the dedication. The Religious School will also be presented with the "Framework for Excellence Award" by a representative from United Synagogue for Conservative Judaism. Please join us for these special events.

SAVE THE DATE: DECEMBER 19 - HOW 2 UNIVERSITY (catalogues will be mailed shortly and classes filled on a first come - first served basis.)

Back to School Night for Grades 8-10 will be December 1, from 7:00 p.m - 9:00 p.m. Parents are invited to attend classes with their children.

College Students

College Students come to Shabbat Service on 11/27/04 so we can honor you… Guest speaker Jennifer Kraus, a senior at Indiana University and an AIPAC intern, will talk about Israel/Jewish politics on campus. Please bring/wear your school baseball cap… USY'ers please come and show your support…. Next year some of you will be our BSO college students!

Nursery School

There will be a Tot Shabbat on Friday, November 19th at 6:45 pm

Social Action

GIVE THANKS, GIVE BLOOD

The second annual Give Thanks, Give Blood blood drive will take place at BSO on Sunday, November 21 between 9:00 AM and 1:30 PM. Please contact Glenda Fleishman at 301 977-8853 or at spencemoll@aol.com to schedule an appointment

Opening the Gates of Torah Conference

  • A conference for professional and lay leadership of congregations, people with disabilities and their familes, and others interested in helping our Jewish community expand its inclusion of people with disabilities in all aspects of synagogue life, will take place on Sunday, November 21st, 4:00-9:00pm at B'nai Israel Congregation in Rockville. A conference fee of $36 includes a kosher dinner.

Men's Club

  • Men's Club is once again selling Entertainment books at the low price of $35. Please contact Larry Parizer at 301.570.3475.

 

Youth

  • Sunday, November 21st: Machar Hannukah Mitzvah event, 8:30-10:00 am,
    before the Torah Dedication. Light breakfast followed by assembling and decorating Hannukah packages for BSO College Students.

    Wednesday, November 24th: USY Turkey Dance at Ohr Kodesh, 8:00-11:00 pm,
    $10 at the door.

    Saturday, November 27th: College Shabbat!!! Where your Thursday, December
    2nd: USY First Thursday Youth Lounge Night. Come hang out in the Youth
    Lounge, watch DVD's, play the X-Box, nosh, and just plain relax!

    Sunday, November 28th: Bonim Bingo with Bubbie and Zaydie.

    Sunday, December 5th: Kindergarten Hannukah Gift-making program... Come
    make a surprise for your parents!!! 10:30 am.

    Sunday, December 12th: USY Israel Space-Capsule program. Come see a day
    in the life of Israeli teenagers, packed into a box!

    Saturday, December 18th: USY Lazertag Lockin with B'nai Israel!

    Attention all parents of Day School students!!! There is a chance that your child is not on my lists for the youth groups at BSO!!! If you have a child who attends a local day school, or if you have a child who has not received any mailings regarding B'nai Shalom of Olney Youth Group activities, please contact me with their name, address, grade, birth date, phone number, and e-mail address!
