Tisha B'Av

Our Tisha B'Av evening service will take place on Monday evening, July 26 at 8:00 P.M. Join us as we worship and read the Book of Lamentations on this most solemn day.

High Holiday Tickets

Letters have been received by our members regarding the new High Holiday ticket distribution system. The High Holiday worship services this year will take place at B'nai Shalom of Olney. Please read through the information and remember to return your ticket order forms by August 9th to ensure that you will be entered in the first round of service and seat assignments. Any questions can be directed at highholidays@bnaishalomofolney.org or the synagogue office at (301)774-0879. There is more information and order forms on the web at www.bnaishalomofolney.org

Yizkor Book of Remembrance

If you would like to place a memorial in our Book of Remembrance, please complete the order form and return it to the synagogue office by August 1st.

Religious School

All registration forms should have been sent to the religious school office with your book and activity fees. If you did not send us your paperwork, your child is not registered yet and we no longer guarantee the midweek day of your choice. In order to process registration forms, we must get clearance from the bookkeeping department that your fiscal obligations to BSO are current. If you sent in your registration forms and are not current, we have not processed your child's registration. We are in the process of setting up our classes and would appreciate receiving all registration forms.

A back to school packet will be mailed approximately the first week of August.

Our "Rescued Torah" fund has reached $5,000.00. We are halfway to our goal! Todah Rabah to all who contributed. If you would like to contribute, please forward a check to the religious school office, payable to Bnai Shalom of Olney, and designate Rescued Torah on the check and envelope.

Sisterhood

  • Please join your BSO Sisterhood Book Club at our Meeting August 1, 2004, when we will eat, schmooze and discuss 'The Year of Wonders' by Geraldine Brooks. We will meet at 11:00 am at the home of Linda Krass, 16829 Ethelwood Terrace, Olney. Please call Linda Krass to let her know you will be joining us. You do not have to read the book to participate in the discussion. See you there!
  • Send out New Year Greetings in the Newsletter this year. Avoid the hassle of sending out your own cards. Order form is due on August 8th.

Youth

  • Lee Lubarsky concluded his two years with BSO as Youth Director this week. We wish Lee well as he moves to New Jersey later this month to begin his graduate studies at Seton Hall. The Youth Committee is in the final stages of its search process for Lee’s successor. They hope to announce their appointment shortly.
  • THE YOUTH LOUNGE IS OPEN!

Come by to listen to some music, hang out have a snack, or play X-Box. Our couch is comfy, and so is the rug, so feel free to stop by and say hello!
  • The deadline for registering for USY Encampment is one week from today on Friday, July 23. The registration forms are available outside the Youth Lounge or can be completed online at www.seaboardusy.org. If you have not done so already, register today so you won't miss out on a week of fun before school starts!
