  • Weekly Highlights & Schedule of Services
    • Our service on Shabbat morning, will begin at 9:15 AM
    • Kiddush Konversation following Services - Topic: Old Men at Midnight by Chaim Potok.
    • Junior Congregation will begin on Shabbat morning at 9:30 AM and will be followed with Kids Kiddush Konversation 11:45-12:45PM
    • Mincha service will be held at 1:45PM following Kiddush Konversation
    • Our minyan service on Sunday morning, January 25th will begin at 8:45 AM. There will also be a Sunday Evening, Yahrzeit minyan at 7:30 PM.
    • Monday-Thursday Minyan at 7:30pm

  • Men's Club
    • The 3rd Annual Federation of Jewish Men's Club World Wide Wrap is coming up on Feb. 1st

  • Sisterhood
    • February 13: Intergeneration Shabbat and Dinner. For details contact Gail Goldfarb or Helene Rosenheim.
    • February 19: Join our very own Cantor Geller for a presentation of "Women in Jewish Song" at 7:30 p.m. at B'nai Israel. Call Sue Hankin for further information or the possibility of a car pool.
    • February 22: Lunch at the Royal Dragon kosher chinese restaurant in Rockville followed by a Mikvah tour. Carpools will be arranged. Watch for a flyer soon. For more information contact Sherry Lowe.
    • February 29: Take a leap with Sisterhood and join us at our Leap Year Brunch. Watch for an upcoming flyer.

  • Dedication Weekend
    • Date Set! The Dedication Weekend for our newly expanded building will be the weekend of April 23-25. Please mark your calendars for this exciting event! If you are interested in getting involved in the planning, call Robin Rosenthal at (301) 774-9689 or Shira Oler at (301) 460-6642 or just come to our next meeting on Tuesday, February 3. If anyone has any photos of past BSO activities , please contact Robin so that we can include them in our program.

  • Religious School
    • There is Junior Congregation and Kids Konversation on Saturday, January 24 and January 31. Junior Congregation starts at 9:30 am in Rooms 13, 14, and 15 followed by Kids Konversation at 11:45.
    • The seventh grade classes will be participating in the World Wide Wrap at 8:30 on February 1 instead of going to regular religious school classes. A letter and tear-off was sent home with the tear-off due back in the religious school office by January 18. If you did not return your tear-off, please do so immediately.
    • The sixth grade Shabbat morning service is February 7 at 9:15 am. There will be a Kiddush following services. All sixth grade students will come to school on Tuesday, February 3 from 4:30-6:30 for rehearsal. Students who normally attend on Wednesdays will not have school on Wednesday, February 4 because they will have attended rehearsal on Tuesday. A tear-off form was sent home and due back in the religious school office on January 28. If you did not return your tear-off form, please do so immediately.
    • The Religious School is sponsoring a Passover Candy Sale and by now you should have received an order form. If you did not, they are available in the religious school office. All orders are due back in to the Religious School Office by February 11th. We encourage you to support our school.
    • The sixth grade generations fair is February 29 at 10:00 am. Everyone is invited to attend. Sixth grade students must be there at 9:30 to set up their displays. Packets were mailed home explaining the project to students and parents and a return form was due back to the religious school office by January 7th. This is a lengthy project and students should not wait until the last minute to complete it for display at the fair.
    • Alef students and their families are doing a fabulous job in bringing in their Tzedakah from the Tzedakah and The Precious Pushke Project. Keep up the good work! We are enjoying watching our container fill up.

  • Youth Programs - All events are FREE to Youth Group Members
    • Super Bogel Sale on Super Bowl Sunday, February 1, 2004. All proceeds will benefit youth programming at BSO. Have fresh bagels delivered to your home on Sunday morning while you watch all the pre-game shows!

    • January 31 - February 1 - 8th Graders only - B'nai Shalom USY's WORLD FAMOUS MEAT/DAIRY NIGHT - DO NOT MISS!
    • USY Basketball schedule has been announced. You can view it on our Youth Website. If you are still interested in playing basketball, but have not yet signed up, there is still time to do so. Contact Lee if you want to play. Our first game is on Sunday, January 25th at 6:45 pm.

  • ISRAELI DANCING ANYONE?
    Come dance in the New Year with us at BSO with three consecutive beginner-friendly Israeli Dancing sessions starting Sunday, Jan. 25 through Feb. 8, from 2:00-3:00 pm. The classes will be taught by our own dynamic (and patient) Susie Fuchs. Students are encouraged to bring a dairy lunch.   • Parking Lot Resurfacing
    Resurfacing of the entire parking lot has begun and weather permitting, we hope it will be finished by mid-January. Updates can be found on BSO's website. We thank everyone for their cooperation during this project and apologize for the inconvenience.

  • The Casino Night Committee would like to thank all the congregants and guests that attended our event on Saturday, January 17th. The overwhelming support of the Board, congregants, staff and volunteer dealers truly made this a fantastic event. Thanks again to the vendors throughout our community who supported us through generous donations. If you missed it, don't worry - we're already working on next year's program!
